SUBJECT: January PTA Newsletter

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?

It's been a while since we've checked in with you! We've been busy in the last few months. Here's a snapshot of what the PTA has been up to:

  • Reached our fundraising goal of $5,000 from our Fall Movie Night and Online Auction. The turnout was amazing and we had a lot of great items to auction off. A HUGE thank you to Ray and Kathryn Schilens for donating the audio/visual equipment and services, and to Kristin and Dalton Lytle for sponsoring our movie and movie license. And to all the volunteers and families who came out to support our Fall Movie Night!
  • Hosted Teacher's Hospitality events in October, November, and December, including a gift card punch game in December. All staff members received a gift card donated by parents (thank you so much to all who donated!).
  • Held a gingerbread house-themed door decorating contest amongst the teachers. The "upstairs" winner was Ms. Kelleher and the "downstairs" winners (tie) were Ms. Coleman and Ms. Gomez! Check out their winning doors below.
  • Met up with fellow little Vikings at USA Ninja Challenge's Spirit Night.
  • Celebrated and thanked our wonder volunteers at our Volunteer Appreciation Lunch at Live Oak Grill.
Our "Naming Rights" Auction Winners!

Our online auction consisted of several winners of naming rights to different areas of the school: the library (The Chernosky Library, pictured below), front lobby (Mary Trevino's Front Lobby), playground (Peyton's Playground), cafeteria (The Lau Cafeteria), and gym (Mr. Butt's Gym). Congratulations to these generous donors! Have you seen the new signs around campus?

Healthy Minds Grant Recipient

Great news! We are the lucky recipient of one of the $2500 grants given out by National PTA Healthy Minds, sponsored by the New York Life Foundation and the Allstate Foundation! We will be developing and incorporating several "Healthy Minds" programs this semester, so please be on the lookout for some great opportunities to learn more about how to support your child's social and emotional health. The first way you can help is by filling out our needs-assessment survey here. This will help us cater and develop programs to fit your needs the most!

Thank you to Vanessa G. for leading this initiative!

If you are able to help with stickering the students at lunch time on Friday, please email secretary@lvepta.com. You can show up for just one grade level, or multiple grade levels! Stickering only takes 10-15 minutes per grade level. You must have your criminal background completed to volunteer on-site.

Volunteer Spotlights!
  • Kirsten Ramirez for the AMAZING hospitality lunches and treats she has coordinated each and every month to spoil our Lakeview teachers and staff. Kirsten is dependable and always goes above and beyond.
  • Rowena Quach for always being on top of our social media accounts. She has been such a huge help with creating eye-catching graphics for all our PTA things and helped us keep our Viking family updated via Instagram and Facebook.
Executive Board Nominations

It is that time of year again! Nominations are now open for executive board members (president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer). Keep in mind that our PTA NEEDS a president, secretary, and treasurer in order to stay active and function. PLEASE consider nominating yourself or a friend for one of these positions if you are interested.

We all know it takes a village to make this PTA thing work. Our executive board is supported by the tremendous help from our committee chairs. If you are interested in serving in one of these positions, please also fill out the nomination form. Our chair positions include: Hospitality, Volunteer, Fundraising, Spirit Wear, Spirit Night, Sponsorship, Social Media, Website, Class Party and Room Parent Coordinator, 5th Grade Party, Healthy Minds, and Dudes on Campus.

More information about the executive board duties can be found here, and information for chair responsibilities can be found here. Any questions can be directed to pta@lvepta.org. Our nominations form is on our website, or you can click here to fill it out.
