SUBJECT: Lakeview PTA October Newsletter

We had a busy month - here's what we've been up to!

  • Gathered at the Space Cowboys baseball game for Spirit Night, and held Spirit Night at Raising Canes
  • Got a yard sign to advertise Spirit Nights - look for it in the car rider line! THANK YOU to Ms. Kelleher for making this for us!
  • Finalized our Fall Movie Night plans and are still taking pre-orders!
  • Launched our online auction! We are currently at 70% of our goal ($3492 of $5000) with 5 days left to go!
  • Hosted a "High Tea" teacher appreciation afternoon with snacks, pastries, tea, and coffee. Our hospitality team jazzed up the teacher breakroom and did an amazing job showering the teachers with love!
  • Held our 2nd annual Partnership Programs Contest to help promote passive-income-generating programs such as Amazon Smile and Box Tops for Education.
  • Re-implemented recycling at Lakeview! Our Dudes on Campus (DOC) will be collecting paper recycling from each classroom on Fridays (in addition to their external lock-check walks).
  • Held our 2nd Spirit Wear sale with a new "Soar to Success" baseball tee!
  • Submitted a grant application for the Healthy Minds program through National PTA.
  • Started showering our principal with love and appreciation for National Principals Month (delivering coffee, flowers, lunch, and set up a bulletin board for parents, teachers, and students to post reasons why she's awesome).
  • Shared some great read-along books which showcase Hispanic culture for National Hispanic Heritage Month. For the list / videos of the read alongs (put together by our counselor, Beth Mullins), click here.
Fall Movie Night & Silent Auction

Our Fall Movie Night is THIS FRIDAY! Make sure to pre-order your meal packages by Wednesday to save money and save on time waiting in line! Doors will open at 6:30pm and the movie will start at 7pm. Make sure to bring blankets/chairs!

Our online auction is currently going on and will end on Friday at our Movie Night! All bidding will occur online and there will be someone to help if you should need assistance.

National Principals Month

Make sure you stop by our front lobby to jot down a reason why Principal McClanahan is the best! We have post-its and markers at our bulletin board for you to use! You can also take a peek at her "Teacher Favorites" list for gift ideas, or send her an email to let her know how much we appreciate her!

Partnership Programs Contest Results

Thank you to all who participated in our Partnership Programs Contest! The winning teacher this year was Ms. Kelleher and her class! Ms. Kelleher will receive an extra $50 in classroom support funds and each student will receive an extra 10 Viking Bucks! Even if you didn't participate in our contest, it's never too late to start earning passively for our school, either by shopping through Amazon Smile or by scanning receipts into the Box Tops for Education App (we are already have over $100 for this school year in our Box Tops account).

We Need Your Help!

  • "Spooktacular" Teacher Appreciation Lunch on Thursday, October 29th - sign up here to contribute salads, sandwiches, chips, drinks, or to help with set up/clean up! We esoecially need help with making the wrap sandwiches, so any contributions for that would be greatly appreciated!

  • Viking Store - 4 weekly slots need to be filled!
  • Dudes on Campus Committee - contact Shariff at doc@lvepta.org if you're interested; they will be volunteering in the morning car rider line and with security checks + recycling pick-up from each classroom on a weekly basis.
  • Sponsorship Committee - contact businesses to ask for school sponsorship.
  • Workroom Crew (laminating and cutting weekly)
  • Treasurer in training

Check Out Our Volunteer Opportunities

This month, we want to highlight and thank four outstanding voluteers; from left to right:

Kimberly Listi for going above and beyond on the Hospitality Committee. She has helped out at each month's event and has been such a reliable volunteer. Kimberly is an avid baker and her delicious treats are absolutely LOVED by our teachers and staff! She has graciusly volunteered to bake all the treats for our Spooktacular Teacher Lunch coming up!

Blake Hutchins for being extremely helpful with our weekly door and lock walk-throughs. Blake's assistance contributed us passing our district safety check with flying colors!

Shirin Aly for all her help with setting up and running the Viking Store each week. The PTA is back in charge of the Viking Store and it took a lot of effort to get everything up and going, but Shirin worked hard to do so and to keep it running each and every week!

Julie Tran for really stepping up and making sure everything is planned out and organized for our upcoming Fall Movie Night. Julie's attention to detail, organization skills, and reliability is such a breath of fresh air. She's easy and enjoyable to work with, and is an amazing team player.

Thank you SO MUCH to these outstanding volunteers and to everyone who has chipped in, one way or another. We are thankful for YOU and all that you do (even if all you did was read this newsletter!).

Our next board meeting is on October 26th from 9-10 am via Zoom and our next membership meeting will be right before the Viking Choir performance on November 3rd (in person). If you would like to attend the board meeting and are not a PTA member, please email secretary@lvepta.org for the Zoom invite. The meeting agenda and Zoom invite will be emailed out a couple days before the meeting, so make sure to watch for it in your inbox!

Board meetings for the rest of the year:

  • November 30 from 6:30-7:30PM
  • January 4 from 6:30-7:30PM
  • February 1 from 9-10AM
